Short bionotes:
Prof. Dr. Rachko Popov was born in 1953 in city of Karnobat. He graduated in History and  Ethnography at Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski”. He specialized in Moscow, Berlin and Munich in the field of mythology and calendar holidays and rituals of the Bulgarian, Balkan and Slavic peoples. Doctor of Historical Sciences. Director of the Ethnographic Institute and Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 1993 to 2009. Author of a big mount of researches “Butterfly and German”, “Twin Saints in Bulgarian Folk Calendar”, “Short Festive Folk Calendar”, “Bulgarian Folk Calendar”, “Saints and Demons in the Balkans”, “Sakar. Ethnography, Folklore and Language Study” etc. Currently he is working in “Balkan Ethnology” department at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at BAS.
